Weekend Number Nineteen

Nic - Monday, May 14, 2012

Along break from my last post.  I have been busy with actual paid work therefore some prioritising needed to be done. But here is a round up of this weekend.  Some crafting was had by me and my girl, she made the owl on the right, and I made the vases.  It was the most pleasurable bit of crafting I have done in a long time.  A bit of recording was done with the iPad and an electric guitar, his favourite past time these days.  A new addition arrived in the shape of a lamb the stuffed toy variety, and lots of rain and a bit of sun came down on us.

Weekends and Mothers

Nic - Sunday, March 18, 2012

A busy weekend chopping down some friends conifers that had got rather oversized at twelve foot deep and some 40 foot high.  So a bit of community mucking in was had, sharing some food and craic.  Then there was Mother's Day which we really don't do as it is just another made up day to encourage us to spend.  So my little people brought me a cup of tea in bed (my favourite thing ever) baked me a cake and cut flowers from our camelia for the table, all by themselves without any assistance.

10 years

Nic - Friday, March 09, 2012

My goodness my eldest boy has reached double figures and my what a special guy he is, funny, clever, super sweet and caring, an amazing guitar player and a demon on the hockey pitch!  The day was spent bowling with friends then back home for a disco (10 year old boys don't dance they wrestle) party food and a double decker birthday cake.  Happy Birthday Angus, my love, here's to you.

Starling News

Nic - Monday, March 05, 2012

We have starlings in our nest box already.  The box went up last week and already a pair are busy in the garden collecting and making their nest box a home.  The children are transfixed watching the male and female, you can distinguish quite easily between the two, she seems to have a shorter neck and is much chunkier.  It is great having some larger birds in the garden because they seem to be keeping the squirrel at bay, or he has found another source of food and moved on.

Weekend Round Up

Nic - Sunday, March 04, 2012

Four seasons in one weekend, mini-garden making, peg dolls and chocolate, quilt beginnings, tea and the Titanic.

Rhubarb

Nic - Tuesday, February 28, 2012

More garden themes as we seem to be having such wonderful weather, so bright and sunny.  We are spending lots of afternoons outside, riding go-karts and bikes and digging over the vast amounts of weeds just sprouting up in my beds. My first rhubarb has unbelievably come up and is ready to stew for breakfast.

I have a new starling bird box, which I had wanted since we blocked up their original nesting spot in the wall when we had insulation put it.  It was made by a very kind and generous neighbour in exchange for a bottle of something red.  Feeling very appreciative of what I have around me, lots of outdoor space and lovely neighbours.

Weekend Round Up

Nic - Sunday, February 26, 2012

Some lovely weather we are having here and this weekend my mind has been wandering to planning out some new areas to the garden.  A friend very kindly sketched out some ideas for vegetables and new planting areas - just need to make the time to action these good ideas - maybe next weekend.

Spoons and Jam

Nic - Thursday, February 23, 2012

Lots of time spent in my kitchen as always and I always have my trusty iphone with me so I thought I would share some wooden spoons, the round headed french variety that I love and my favourite jam enjoyed on toast with afternoon tea.

Finally

Nic - Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Finally got my bargain curtains up at the front door just in time for the mild weather and it reached a whopping 10 degrees today, positively tropical for these parts!  I only bought them before Christmas and had my Dad reinforce the pole for me to leave them lying in the studio for two very cold months - well I suppose you just can't do everything you intend to do.   At least I managed to remember Shrove Tuesday and knock out some pancakes for afternoon tea.
